No Mom Is An Island: Becoming a WAHM with Filipina Homebased Moms (FHMoms)

What I thought was an ordinary day after work was one of the days I’ll always be thankful. It’s the day I joined a closed Facebook group called Filipina Homebased Moms or FHMoms. I found this group through Facebook recommendation.

FHMoms is a community of Filipina WAHMs and WAHM-wannabes. And girl, I tell you, this group is among the FB groups that I feel I really belong.

As mentioned in the group’s description:

“Filipina Homebased Moms (FHMoms) is the first and the biggest parenting and freelancing group for Pinay moms in the Philippines. We are dedicated to help all Filipina moms out there who are aspiring to work from home, be able to land the online jobs they deem of having, through the support group we came up with over Facebook. Through this group, we aim to cater to all the needs of fellow freelance working Pinay moms. “

Founded by Maria Korina Cope, the now huge group began while she was battling the toxic Manila traffic. On her way home from a tiring 8-hour shift, she began pondering on transitioning from office work to working from home. Like most moms, she wanted to spend most of her time with her family. So she won’t have to waste it on a daily struggle with commuting and heavy traffic.

FHMom Founder’s Journey to Becoming a WAHM

She found her way to being a WAHM (Work-at-Home Mom) through an online website called onlinejobs.ph. She got an invite a few hours after her first application. Her life was changed since then!

Determined not to keep the opportunity to herself, she then started helping other moms land an online job so they too, could generate an income from the comfort of their homes. Later on, FHMoms was born.

Ever since I became a part this group, I started recommending it to people who ask me how they could get an online job. You see, FHMoms was not there when I first started my online work in 2012. I was blessed to find a job in Upwork (formerly Odesk) but at that time, fishing for a job on your own and relying on the internet to help you was never easy. Gladly, online groups like FHMoms and webinars are now everywhere. With passion, determination, and hunger for learning, anyone can have an online job.

Ms. Cope, along with many other mom volunteers, offer so many opportunities for us to learn. You have almost everything you need to jumpstart your WAHM career. All you need now is an apt-to-teach attitude and a confidence in yourself that you too, can become a WAHM like us.

FHMoms also has a YouTube account with different WAHM topics and tutorials like cover letters, resume and interview tips, transcription, becoming a VA, etc. In fact, I was one of the content contributors – I shared about the Common Problems of Being a Work-at-Home Mom. Watch the video below. 🙂

Aside from that, I’ll be one of the participants for the June COOL program and I am excited to learn new things and meet new online friends via this program. Additionally, I become one of the FHMoms bloggers just recently. I am just sooo happy I’m a part of this group in small ways I can contribute.

Interesting Mom-Related Discussions

Although Filipina Homebased Moms (FHMoms) is about helping moms find a homebased job – the discussion threads are not just limited to working from home. In this group – we talk about any mom-related topics from parenting, relationship, homeschooling, finances, family, and so much more!

Although I don’t actively participate by commenting, I am among the silent readers of the group.
