How to Enjoy a Hike Even More

Hiking is not what I usually do. I think I only do it at least once in a year. Last Monday, we had an unplanned hike. Well, for them it was planned, I just decided I’d tag along by the time they were about to leave. We hiked to the gate of Timberland Heights which is about 3.5 kilometers away from where we live.

How to Enjoy a Hike Even More

Many are not so much into hiking, including me. We sometimes find it uninteresting and tiring. That’s why I don’t do it often. However, there are things we can do to enjoy a hike even more!

1. Be with friends and family

Don’t hike alone. You’ll really get bored. Even though it can be a good time to reminisce, hiking with a group of friends is 10x more fun! The reason I joined their hike last Monday was I knew that it would be fun.

It was our church youth who planned the hike. I didn’t know about it until Sunday evening when we headed home. They did it because Monday the 21st was a holiday. I’m glad they decided to spend it at home.

2. Talk about anything under the sun

Hiking is one of the ways to catch up with someone. When we were going up, I noticed we grouped ourselves by twos or threes unintentionally. I was with my sister and we talked about so many things while we were going up. We talked about our family, plans, and more.

3. Just have fun, that’s it!

Nobody wants a KJ. KJs spoil the good vibes and we don’t want that to happen. I was the eldest in the group, most of them were teenagers. I didn’t want to be the Ms. Minchin of the group so I just laugh with them and try to fit in. Trying hard, actually. haha!

4. Capture the moment

Do not forget to take pictures! It’s a good way to keep the memories alive. Whether that’s a group photo, a selfie, a twofie, a groupie, a jump-shot, a plank, a dab, whatever! Do what you want to do, pose whatever you want to pose. Life is too short to worry about that. lol.

5. Stop if you have to

While on our way up, it rained hard so we decided to stay in a shed for a few minutes. Hiking is not a competition, you’re supposed to walk to have fun. So we don’t need to hurry up. If you need to rest, stop. If you think the scenery is lovely, stop and let your eyes enjoy the scene! πŸ™‚

All in all, our hiking turned out great! Not only that, the rain poured again by the time we were back home. What a good time to rest, haha. Most of us slept in the afternoon!

  1. Yes, there's always something about hiking that we can really get close and love it so much. Capturing the moment is I guess what makes the hike more fun and of course the infinite jokes along the way. I used to climb mountains and this hike is the kind of adventure I love. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

  2. I agree with everything you have listed here.. even when you're not with your family or close friends, you can still enjoy hiking by approaching other hikers and befriend with them..i strongly agree with the last one too.. I have learned that in hiking, you do not have to force yourself to reach the summit immediately.. you need to rest to condition yourself especially if the trail is pure assault…

It's a good way of resetting one's body lalo na kapag stressed na sa buhay. I have done it only once though. Para pa sa team building. Haha all in all, it was a fun experience.

  7. Thanks for these tips! πŸ™‚ I've only tried hiking once when I was in high school and I would really love to do it again with my boys one day soon. It would be an awesome family activity and I am sure we will all enjoy the experience and the bonding!

  8. Wow, I can't remember the last time I went on a hike. Hmmmm… The only hike I can remember going to was during my college science field trip to the top of Taal Volcano. I don't really love hikes but that one was really memorable.

  9. I used to love hiking with the boys. It refreshes the soul and clears my mind. Though I dont like the aching legs it gives after the hike. Ihihi. But seriously, if only i could join them again, I would love to try hiking once more.
