Time to say “goodbye” to 2016 and “hello” to the New Year that lies ahead! Before this year ends, I would like to look back and thank Him for all the wonderful things that he has given us this year.
This year isn’t perfect like all the other years that passed but as I start counting the blessings, I am reminded that God has given us more than enough. And to thank Him for His goodness is one of the many things that I can do to give back our praises to Him. Here are the 5 highlights of 2016 for me and my family.
We may be far from our church and going there every Sunday is costly for us, but if there is one thing I am most thankful for the place where we live now, it’s the fact that we are surrounded with good neighbors who have become our friends and are there to offer help when we need it.
With Dane away, we are left with either 1 or 2 males at home (aside from Nate). They’re Dane’s brothers. So I praise and thank God most of all, for the protection that He gave us this year. Wherever I go, either with a companion or not, I know that I will be safe because I am covered by His caring hands.

I also thank God for the protection that He gave for the people we love and value. To Dane, who is working in one of the strictest countries in the world, who has no one to trust but God and the people he became friends with. And also to my family in our hometown, specially to my mother who is sickly, and to my father and brother who drive motorcycle all the time. I am most thankful that God takes them to safety always.
With God’s wisdom and guidance, Dane was promoted twice at work this year! And that is something that we’re really thankful for. When it comes to work, I know how dedicated my husband is. After being acknowledged as an employee of the month for 3 consecutive months, Dane was promoted as a wingman. After working as a 3rdman for a few weeks, he was later interviewed for assistant managerial position and passed! Last October, if I remember it right, he was transferred to a new location and was assigned as an assistant manager at that place.

For all the good things that have happened to him at work, I’m thankful, even for all the stress. The problems that he encountered are stepping stones that helped him become who he is now at work. And for that, I am one proud wifey!
As a mother and a father to Nate (temporarily), and the person who makes the final decision at home currently (given that Dane is away), I am thankful for the sanity that God has given me. Many times I would want to just go home and stay with my parents while Dane works abroad but I know God has a reason why He put me in this place.

I am thankful for the enduring attitude that He has supplied to me. If not for God’s help, I might have lost my sanity already! Here at home, we sometimes argue, disagree and even fight. And in spite of all that, we are able to stay together and live peacefully with each other. I know everyone has exerted their own patience to make this house as peaceful as possible. So I praise God for the patience and endurance that He gave to all of us!
4. Physical Health
This year unfortunately ended with both Nate and Dane sick at the same time and that got me worried: first because in a week’s time, we will be joining a kid’s camp and I wouldn’t want Nate going there with coughs and colds, second, Dane is away and no one would take care of him there. The son was sick with colds and the husband with flu. I am always in pain whenever they get sick. But thank God for the medicine that He provides that and strong immune system that they have, their sickness didn’t last long.

To my mother who has been diagnosed with myoma and would experience heavy bleeding monthly, I am thankful that she’s not experienced that for a few months now. To me who work at night and don’t get a full 6 or 8-hr sleep during the day, I thank God for the good health that He’s given me.
Every day, we face challenges that require decision making and planning. Dane and I have been praying for something that will require a major change in our lifestyle and home location. Everything can happen in the next few months so even though we’ve talk about these for so many times already, these plans can change, depending on the situation. So we continue to commit our plans to God.

Along with this plan is a price. I can’t say that we have huge savings already but Dane and I continue to save for all the plans that we have in the future. I praise God that we are able to save, in spite of all the expenses that we have and I hope that we will continue to be able to save financially before he comes back. The next 12 months is very crucial for us as it’s the only time we have left to save up before Dane comes home.
For everything that He has done in our lives, God is worthy to be praised and adored. I welcome 2017 with a happy heart and a confidence that He will be there to guide us, every step of the way!
